India will take on England at Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground, Indore on 17 November 2008 in the second match of the 7-match ODI series. With India clinching a thumping 158-run victory in the first match, England is now under pressure ahead of the second match. India came into the match on the back of a series victory over Australia at home, while England arrived India after suffering a morale-denting defeat in the multi-million dollar Stanford Super Series match. England continued their abject form in India too as they suffered another humiliation being all out for 98 against a second string Mumbai XI. However, England was expected to be full of confidence after demolishing South Africa 4-0 in their recent ODI series at home.
Match: India vs England, Second ODI 2008
Date: 17 November 2008, Monday
Venue: Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground, Indore
Kick off: 09:00 local time (03:30 GMT)
Live on: NEO Sports, Sky Sports
Cricinfo reported:
England’s limited-overs form, before the three massive defeats, was excellent. They beat South Africa 4-0 at home and their coach Peter Moores said they needed to play the same quality of cricket in different conditions in India. Their bowlers in particular need to find the right length quickly, especially against an opening pair that will attack from the outset. Ground once ceded is hard to regain. England bat deep - Stuart Broad is at No 9 - but there is little their batsmen can do if they have to chase 300-plus totals on a regular basis.
The pitch at Indore is expected to be slightly different that the pitch of Rajkot in the first match. Curator Samundar Singh Chauhan believes that there could be plenty of runs being scored in this wicket. In fact, the wicket is flat and the boundary is small. So, cricket fans might experience many big hits in the second match.
India is most likely to miss pacer Ishant Sharma for the second ODI too as the bowler could not yet recover from ankle injury sustained during the recent test series against Australia. Previous match’s star Yuvraj Singh is also doubtful for the second ODI as the left handed batsman suffered back problem during the first ODI in Rajkot. His fitness will be assessed before the kick off of the match tomorrow. If Yuvraj Singh fails to prove his fitness on the morning of the match-day, then Virat Kohli might play in the starting line up.
For England, there is good news. Left handed pacer Ryan Sidebottom is ready to come back in action in the second match after missing out for the first match with Achilles tendon problem. If Ryan Sidebottom plays, then James Anderson has to make way for Sidebottom.

India seems to be favorite, considering their scintillating recent form that saw England suffering their worst defeat by run to England in the first match. However, if the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff can be at their prime, then India must face a stiff competition. However, India has been in an excellent form now. I think, England will be gearing up to make a strong come back and it could be a hard-fought, exciting match.
20 Things About India England ODI Series 2008
The much-awaited ODI series between India and England started on Friday in Rajkot with India winning the first match pretty successfully. After clinching test series victory over Australia recently, Indian team is now full of confidence. Australia’s depleted form has already triggered off the question who is the best team in the world at this moment. No doubt, India is one of the teams who are keen to replace Australia from the number 1 position both in ODI as well as in Test cricket. If India can continue their momentum in the ODI series against England too, then they will definitely have more ground to claim Australia’s top place. However, if England can clinch the series in India, a rare feat by the visiting teams, they will also be a serious contender for the top place of ODI cricket under the new captain Kevin Pietersen. Here, I am giving some important information about the seven-match ODI series between India and England:

8. The 158-run victory has become India’s biggest win by run against England in ODI.

17. Paul Collingwood has highest ODI runs among the English players in the current ODI squad. For India, Yuvraj Singh is the highest run scorer among the current members of India’s ODI squad. However, if Sachin makes it to the squad from the fourth ODI of the series, then he will become the highest run scorer of the team.

19. Among the seven matches, there are three day-night matches in the series.
20. Upcoming six matches will take place on following venues respectively- Indore (17th Nov), Kanpur (20th Nov), Bangalore (23rd Nov), Cuttack (26th Nov), Guwahati (29th Nov), Delhi (2 Dec).
India vs England 1st ODI 2008: India Scored 387 for 5 after 50 Overs
First of the seven-match ODI series between India and England is now going on at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground, Rajkot in India. This is now innings break at Rajkot. Batting first, India made a huge total of 387 runs losing 5 wickets after 50 overs thanks to Yuvraj Singh’s firing innings of 138 off just 78 balls with 16 boundaries and 6 over-boundaries.
Earlier in the morning, England captain Kevin Pietersen won the toss and decided to field first. However, England pacers failed to prove captain’s decision right as Indian openers started off excellently well with the opening pair putting on 127 runs on the board within 20 overs. Both Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were playing the England pacers pretty comfortably. Stuart Broad was very expensive, while James Anderson and Andrew Flintoff failed to create any pressure on the Indian openers. Steve Hamison was no good either. Virender Sehwag was typically aggressive on his way to play an innings of 73-ball 85 with ten 4s and three 6s.
However, the formidable-looking partnership was broken when slow left-arm pacer Samit Patel was brought into the attack. Patel picked up the wicket of Gautam Gambhir who played an innings of 51 runs off 63 balls with 8 boundaries. However, India did not have any problem to carry on the momentum as Suresh Raina also started playing with sheer confidence, but India suffered another dent when Patel made Sehwag the catch of Ian Bell, leaving India 153 for 2 in the 24th over of the innings.
Following the dismissal of Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh came into the wicket. Yuvraj Singh along with Suresh Raina shared an excellent third-wicket partnership of 89 runs off 77 balls. Raina was looking dangerous as he was hitting some big sixes after every few overs. However, the left hander fell to Andrew Flintoff on 43 off 44 balls with three 6s. India suffered another blow in the very next over when Yusuf Pathan went out for a duck off Steve Harmisson.
After the double blow in two overs came the most formidable and firing partnership of the Indian innings between Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. They shared a 105-run partnership for the fifth wicket in which Yuvraj Singh’s contribution was 61. After reaching his fifty, Yuvraj Singh became more aggressive and went after almost every English bowler. Dhoni got played on off Harmison on 39 from 32 balls in the 48th over, but Yuvraj Singh continued his fiery display till the end of the innings. Rohit Sharma chipped in 11 runs off 8 balls in the end.
In terms of number of wickets, Samit Patel and Steve Harmison are the most successful bowlers for England with 2 wickets each. However, both of them were very expensive. Well, so did other bowlers too. Flintoff picked up one wicket for 67 runs in his 10 overs. Now, England has to chase a giant target of 388 runs to win the match. Now, let us see if English batsmen can respond well to India’s tremendous batting show.
Confident Pakistan Facing West Indies in the 2nd ODI on Friday
After narrowly winning the first match by 4 wickets, Pakistan is going to face West Indies on Friday (14 November 2008) in the second match of the three-match ODI series currently going on in Abu Dhabi. With Pakistan leading 1-0 in the series, West Indies must need to win the second match in order to keep the series alive before the third match. Pakistan, on the other hand, will look to continue their momentum and will be happy to clinch the title in the second match. The second match kicks off at 15:00 local time (11:00 GMT). Cricket fans have enjoyed the close first match and are now expected another hard-fought match in the second ODI of the series.
Pakistan was given a challenging target of 295 by West Indies in the first match thanks to a gallant century from Chris Gayle. However, Pakistani batsmen could successfully reach the target after losing 6 wickets with a ball at hand. Young opener Khurram Manzoor, Younis Khan, Captain Shoaib Malik all batted well in the top order, but the victory would not have been possible for Pakistan without a quick-fire 9-ball 25 from Kamran Akmal and Fawad Alam’s 26 off 25. So, the victory came for Pakistan thanks to a team effort. Pakistan will look to continue their momentum in the second match too.
For West Indies, they have to win the second match. Captain Chris Gayle got an excellent hundred, even though his side failed to win. However, Gayle is confident ahead of the second match and vows to come back with better plan for a victory. Aside form Gayle’s century, West Indies has a few more positive things from the match. Debutant pacer Lionel Baker bowled very well and picked up 3 wickets for 47 runs in 9 overs. So, West Indies has enough chance to make a strong come-back in the second match.
Lahore Badshahs Defeated Hyderabad Heroes by 4 Wickets in the 1st Final of ICL
Lahore Badshahs defeated Hyderabad Heroes by 4 wickets in the first of the best-of-three final of ICL 20-20 Indian Championship, 2008/09 on Thursday at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad. Batting first, Hyderabad Heroes scored 170 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Lahore reached the target after losing 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare.
Winning the toss, Lahore captain Inzamam-ul-Haq decided to field first and in the presentation ceremony, he admitted that wining the toss was very important for them. However, Hyderabad started off well with their opening putting on 49 runs within 6 overs. Opener Jimmy Maher played an excellent innings of 45 off 46 balls. However, Abdul Razzaq was the man who guided Hyderabad to 170 with his well-played 69 from 46 balls. Abdul Razzaq hit 6 boundaries and 3 over-boundaries before getting out in the very last ball of the innings. Tournament’s highest wicket taker Naved-ul-Hasan continued his excellent bowling form in this match too, picking up 3 important wickets for 25 in his 4 overs.
Chasing 171, Lahore made a stormy start, reaching at 28 within 2 overs. Opener Imran Nazir got out after playing a quick-fire innings of 26 off 10 balls with three 4s and two 6s. However, the man who was instrumental behind Lahore’s victory was none other than Imran Farhat who played an excellent innings of 65 off 38 balls with five boundaries and five over-boundaries. At one stage, it seemed Lahore Badshahs was going to win the match comfortably, but losing three wickets in quick succession thanks to Chris Harris’s double blow in an over, Lahore went under pressure for a while. However, Azhar Mahmood’s 18 and Khalid Mahmood’s 10 guided Lahore to reach the target comfortably.
Imran Farhat was given man of the match award. The second final of the tournament will take place on 15 November 2008 at the same ground.

Buoyant India faces England in the ODI series opener in Rajkot tomorrow (14 November 2008). After clinching the recently concluding test series 2-0 against world champions Australia, India is definitely full of confident now, while England, after losing to Stanford Superstars in a multi-million dollar match and very recently being all out for 98 against a second string Mumbai team, seems to have lost much of their confidence they achieved thanks to their 4-0 victory over South Africa in their last ODI series.
Match: India vs England, First ODI 2008
Date: 14 November 2008, Friday
Venue: Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground
Kick off: 09:00 Indian Standard Time (03:30 GMT)
Live TV: NEO Sports, Sky Sports
Though England suffered a humiliating defeat to Mumbai, England Captain Kevin Pietersen does not want to bother about it; rather, he thinks his team is in right track ahead of the first of the seven-match ODI series.
Rediff reported:
“I think the guys are all right, we just need to turn our heads on now and make sure we start on Friday,” he said after the shock reversal in a match in which they were bowled out for a meagre total.
“Today and what happened the other day [in Antigua] doesn’t really count in the grand scheme of things. What counts is the internationals. This really doesn’t matter, but it has taught us a few quick lessons,” Pietersen said after the unexpected loss.
England will miss left arm pacer Ryan Sidebottom for the first match as the player is yet to recover from hell injury. However, pacer Stuart Broad has passed a fitness test and will be part of the first XI for the first match. Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff will have a big responsibility for England batting line up. In the presence of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Steve Harmison and Flintoff, England has a very good pace attack. England coach Peter Moores is pretty much confidence ahead of the first match.
Sky Sports reported:
“They’ve got the advantage there of top-flight players coming out of a tough series, so they’re in that mode.
“But we’ve got the advantage that we’re fresh and I think, though Tuesday was disappointing, it’s not going to knock our confidence as a team.
“We’re very confident as a one-day team, we have a clear formula of how we’re going to play and we want to go and test it out in different conditions in India.”
Indian team looks pretty strong, even without the likes of Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar has been rested for the first three matches, upon his request for a break. Sehwag and Gambhir have been in excellent form in the opening slot, while Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Captain Dhoni make India’s middle order very strong. With Yusuf Pathan being included, it would give an extra boost to Indian batting line up. India will miss Ishant Sharma for the first match, but Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel and RP Singh could give enough strength to India’s pace attack. Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha are expected to play together to lead India’s spin attack.

India seems to be slightly favorite, given their recent triumph over Australia in evidence. However, you can not write off English side either yet. Under the new captain Pietersen, they looked formidable against South Africa in ODI series. Though England failed to continue their success against Stanford Superstars and recently against a Mumbai XI team, still they can revamp their form once the series gets underway. So, I predict an exciting, hard-fought match in Rajkot.

High-flying India is going to face England in a 7-match ODI series, starting from tomorrow (13 November 2008) in Rajkot. India has been in a buoyant form after demolishing Australia in the recent test series at home. England has also defeated South Africa in their recent ODI series pretty comfortably at home. However, the visiting side suffered a number of morale denting experience during this time. First, they were comfortably beaten by Stanford Superstars in the recently held Stanford Super Series in which the winning team clinched $20 Million. After that, England suffered a humiliating defeat to Mumbai Cricket Association XI after being bowled out for 98 in their last tour match.
Anyway, there is no doubt, it is going to be a hardly-fought series with both sides looking to continue their winning run in ODI cricket. The timing of the day/night matches will be conducive for the cricket fans in England, but timing for all other four matches (day matches) will not be good for the cricket fans in England. Following the end of the high-profile test series between India and Australia, cricket fans are eagerly waiting for the upcoming ODI series between India and England. Given the recent form of both India and England in ODI cricket, the seven-match ODI series, starting from 14 November 2008 in Rajkot, is expected to be very competitive and hard-fought. With India winning their recent ODI series 3-2 in Sri Lanka and England pulling off emphatic 4-0 victory in their last ODI series against South Africa at home, it is pretty much sure that both the sides are now full of confidence.
Though England suffered a morale-denting defeat to Mumbai Cricket Association XI, being bowled out only for 98 while chasing a target of 223 runs, it is expected that India will not find it very easy to break the touring side under the young captain Kevin Pietersen. Indian team will also have the home advantage in the series. Overall, the ODI series seems to be alluring for the cricket fans around the world. Both India and England have a number of young players in their squads. Some fans might find a battle between two young captains: Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kevin Pietersen.
