Seventh seed Venus Williams has reached the third round of women’s singles at U.S. Open 2008. The American needed only 59 minutes to oust the Paraguayan opposition Rossana De Los Rios by 6-0, 6-3 in the second round match of the tournament. Venus dominated in her straight set victory, showing some excellent piece of performances. You can claim that De Los Rios is not as big an opponent to test the current form of Venus. Yes, it is true, but the way Venus played definitely entertained her fans. However, the 2000 and 2001 winner of U.S. Open admitted herself that she had been hardly tested in the match.

Meanwhile, Venus’ younger sister Serena Williams, seeded 4th, also made her way to the third round after wining over Russian opponent Elena Vesnina 6-1, 6-1 in the second round. An all American quarter final clash between Williams sisters now seems to be a most likely incident to happen at U.S. Open 2008. No doubt, American fans are not happy with the two sisters being drawn into the same half.

Venus Williams claimed said that she wanted to touch the home grand slam title once again and that was her goal. However, before that, Venus Williams now meets 30th seed, Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama in the third round of the tournament.
