Sri Lanka vs India Third ODI 2008: Youngsters Keep India’s Hope Alive
With Indian athletes making their way to success in Beijing Olympics, the ongoing ODI series between India and Sri Lanka seems to have received a relatively low emphasis from cricket-crazy Indians. Well, India came back in the series with the victory in the second ODI as the series is now leveled 1-1 and ahead of the third ODI, India has a good chance to get a lead in the series.
Considering the performance of the first two matches, it is pretty clear that Indian batsmen could not show enough of their skill and ability. However, still there are some prospects seen in India’s batting line up. Opening batsmen Virat Kohli and middle order batsman Subramanium Badrinath showed a glimpse of their batting skill in the second ODI that India won by 3 wickets.
Kohli played an innings of 37, while Badrinath remained not out on 27 leading India to reach the target. Considering the low scoring match, both the innings were significant for India. Moreover, the most important thing is that both the players showed enough poise and patience in their innings. In particular, the way Badrinath built up his innings was really something more than excellent for a debutant.
He joined Dhoni in the wicket while India was struggling at 75 after losing five wickets. Despite the huge pressure, Badrinath remained calm and poised and gradually led India to victory. So, the performance from the youngsters like Kohli and Badrinath could be inspirational for team India ahead of the third ODI. The third ODI will take place at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 24 August.
