Paul Nixon to Rejoin ICL Risking his County Future
Former England wicketkeeper Paul Nixon has decided to rejoin unauthorized Indian Cricket League (ICL) for the second season, putting his domestic cricket future at stake. The Leicestershire Captain took part in ICL’s first season last year. However, he did not have to face ECB’s ban from representing Leicestershire in county cricket, because Nixon along with three former English cricketers: Darren Maddy, Chris Read and Vikram Solanki- signed contracts with ICL before the start of legal dispute.
However, Paul Nixon will not get any mercy from ECB this time, if he really rejoins the rebel ICL this year too. ECB will definitely come down hard on Paul Nixon and he will not be allowed to play for Leicestershire in county cricket. However, the player is hopeful about his future, knowing the fact that five foreign county players, who played in ICL last year, won their appeal against ECB-imposed ban on them in the court.
Paul Nixon talked to those foreign players about the issue and showed his ICL contract to them. They assured him that there will be no problem for him in future to continue playing in county cricket. Moreover, Paul Nixon himself is interested to extend his county career and lead Leicestershire in county cricket.
