Novak Djokovic Progressed to the Fourth Round of U.S. Open 2008

Third seed Novak Djokovic reached the fourth round of U.S. Open 2008 after defeating Croatian Marin Cilic in the four-set third round match on Sunday. The Serbian’s 6-7 (7), 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (0) victory did not came smoothly as he needed to come back from a set down to confirm his progress to the next round. The Australian Open champion needed three and 52 minutes to snatch the victory, seeing off his 19-year-old opponent.

Both the players played well and created excellent competition in all the four sets. Djokovic won final 11 points to get by the hard-fought match. Though both players produced about 100 unforced errors together to increase the match length, the match was interested with excellent performance being produced by both the players. All through the match Djokovic and Cilic played well with sheer confidence.

Djokovic admitted that his Croatian opponent played great in the match. The Serbian also added that the victory was very encouraging for him. Novak Djokovic will face Tommy Robredo from Spain in the fourth round encounter in his pursuit to win second career grand slam title in U.S. Open 2008.
