No doubt, NBC has taken such a massive program for the first time as an America-based television network. Among 3,600 hours of coverage, 2,900 hours will bring live actions from Beijing, China. The number of hours for total coverage for Beijing Olympics is way more than the total amount of coverage of previous summer Olympics in the US.
NBC had to cost $894 million to acquire the television right of Beijing Olympic Games 2008 from International Olympic Committee. So, naturally NBC will provide its every possible effort to maximize their earning. The good news for NBC is that they will not have to face any strong challenge from any seasonal popular programs like American Idol throughout August. Mover, this year NBC will not only focuses on US athletes; rather it will have its focus fixed on any event that will help increase their television rating. Events like 32 swimming gold medal finals, important events from gymnastics and beach volleyball, and men’s and women’s marathons will be brought live for the American viewers.
NBC will also air the recorded tape on suitable time for their audience. They are focusing on their affiliates, advertisers and audience, while choosing their programs on Beijing Olympics Games. So, overall it seems to be a successful Olympics coverage for NBC.
