People like Michael Phelps do not appear in sports arena everyday. They are rare species and seeing them winning can be really experience of a lifetime. Today, the twenty three year old American swimmer took his fourth and fifth gold today. This makes his personal gold collection eleven. Now, he has three more events away to become a legend. The interesting thing is the United States won ten gold medals and half of the medals came from Michael Phelps. Today, the swimmer participated in two events; 200 meter butterfly and 4*200 meter free style relay. In the 200 meter butterfly, Phelps broke his own previous record of 1 minute 52.09 seconds in 2007 world championships. He finished the race in 1 minute 52.03 seconds.
In the 800 meter free style relay, Michael Phelps led the team to winning. The U.S. swimming team took 6 minutes 58.56 seconds. They broke the seven minute barrier. Phelps is now already ahead of Mark Spitz, Carl Lewis, Paavo Nurmi, and Larysa Latynina.
In the upcoming 200 meter individual medley, Phelps is the most favorite contender but he would have a tough time, as his team mate, Ryan Lochte, poses a serious challenge in the 200 meter individual medley. In the preliminary heat, Phelps took the sixth position by finishing within 1 minute 58.65 seconds but Ryan Lochte finished it in 1 minute 58.15 seconds.
