Serbian tennis star Jelena Jankovic reached the final of U.S. Open 2008 after defeating Russian fifth seed Elena Dementieva in straight set 6-4, 6-4. This is her first grand slam singles final for second seed Jankovic. Despite a bad start, Jankovic pulled off an easy victory against Olympic gold medalist Dementieva. The Serbian will now face either Serena Williams or Elena Dementieva in the final of the tournament.

As I earlier mentioned, Jankovic did not get a good start as she was broken early in the first set, but bounced back with clinching five sets in a row, coming from 2-4 down. After losing the first set, Dementieva looked to lose her confident as she started committing unforced errors which eventually finished her hope to come back in the second set. In total, she made 42 unforced errors, compared to 22 from Jelena Jankovic in the match.

In the second set, neither of them were playing well initially as they were struggling with their serves. However, Jankovic managed to make it 4-3. After two games at 5-4, Dementieva required to hold the serve to take the match into another game, but that was proven the decisive game of the match as Dementieva failed to hold the serve, making two errors and a double fault. Thus, Jelena Jankovic reached her first career grand slam final at U.S. Open 2008. Now, let us see if the Serbian can win her first ever grand slam title in her career defeating either Serena Williams or Dinara Safina in the final.
