India vs Australia Test Series 2008: Ponting Says, ‘Dropping Ganguly is Interesting’

Australian captain Ricky Ponting recently said that Sourav Ganguly’s omission from the initial squad of the Indian team had surprised him and Ganguly’s exclusion from the test series would be interesting for him during the tour. Australia’s tour to India will start with the first of the two practice matches, due to start from 27 September 2008.

Ricky Ponting would lead a young side with lack of experience at international level in the upcoming tour, so it is pretty sure that Ponting would find it more difficult to replicate their form of previous tour to India in the upcoming series. Ponting led Australia to a historic test series victory in India in 2004. The batsman has recently come back in action after shaking off his wrist injury that kept him out of action for six weeks.

World Cup winning Australian captain also said that the coming series was going to be a great contest, besides saying that India is a great place to play cricket and Australia always enjoys playing in India. However, he dismissed the talk of the current bad-patch of India’s experienced middle order saying that a series may not go well for a few players, but they could come back in the next series with some big scores. He ended up saying that it could be an exciting series if players of both sides can play with the right spirit.
