Former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar, who is the current chief selector of Indian team, has recently talked about Australia’s upcoming tour to India. Vengsarkar thinks the upcoming test series will be tough series for either side. He thinks Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir must continue their excellent form of recent in the upcoming tour too, while he backs the experienced middle order that failed totally in the recent Sri Lanka tour. He has also stated that world’s top two test teams will be pitted against each other in the upcoming test series.

Dilip Vengsarkar still thinks that Indian batting line up is the most experienced in world cricket, even though their performance in Sri Lanka was not satisfactory. The former Indian cricketer also feels that Australia’s uncapped players will find it very hard to adapt to the Indian condition and Australia will miss the excellence of Shane Warne in the series, but Vengsarkar has also stated that his Australia’s pace is excellent.

About India’s in-form spinner Harbhajan Singh, Vengsarkar has been full of praise saying that the spinner loves to take challenge and he will be looking forward to the Australia series. On Dhoni’s return to test squad after missing the Sri Lanka tour citing exhaustion, Vengsarkar has said that Dhoni has been more matured and can handle the tough situations.

When asked about the chances of Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh in test squad, Vengsarkar has said that one has to perform in the field with consistency, besides holding on fitness. Well, one thing that is unclear is that Vengsarkar backs India’s middle order saying that they will be back in good form in the forthcoming series, but still singles out Ganguly saying that one has to perform consistently and hold on fitness. He has also said that Indian batting line up is most experienced in the world.

However, the interesting thing is that Ganguly is one of the experienced members and his performance over the last one year has been more consistent than many other players in Indian batting line up, but recently he has been left out of the squad, while other players have retained their place in the squad. Does BCCI have double standard for assessing the performance of the players?
