Dinara Safina Reached Semi Final of U.S. Open 2008
Dinara Safina secured a semi final spot after defeating Italian opponent Flavia Pennetta pretty comfortably. The Russia sixth seed was played at her prime, while Flavia Pennetta, who was playing his first grand slam quarter final match, seemed to be the shadow of her excellent form of previous rounds. Italian 16th seed surrendered to Safina in striahgt set 6-2, 6-3. In the first set, Pennetta failed to produce any challenge in the first set as she was broken twice by Dinara Safina.
In the second set, Flavia Pennetta looked to make a come-back in the match, but failed to capitalize on her 2-1 lead, a Safina rallied to win five out of next six games in the match. French Open finalist Safina will face the winner of the Williams sisters in the last four in her bid to win her first ever grand slam title at Flashing Meadow this year. Now, let us see if the Russian can continue her red hot form in the last two matches of the tournament.
