Rafael Nadal is now just a match behind from his first ever Olympic gold medal. The Spaniard outclassed Novak Djokovic in three-set match on Friday. Nadal will take on Fernando Gonzalez on Sunday in the gold medal match of tennis in Beijing Olympic. The French Open and Wimbledon champion is clearly favorite for the match.

Nadal ousted Djokovic 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in a thrilling semi final match. Though the Serbian could bounce back in the match in the second set after losing the first, that was of no avail as Nadal rallied to clinch the third set. However, it was not a one-sided match, given the score line in evidence. Being the second top ranked player of ATP tennis, Rafael Nadal will become the highest-ranked men’s tennis player ever to win an Olympic medal.

Well, Fernando Gonzalez will start the match as underdog, but the way he reached the final could indicate an exciting gold medal match in Beijing Olympics Games 2008. He defeated James Blake, who ousted Roger Federer from the singles competition, en route to final. This is not going to be the first ever Olympic medal for the Chilean. In fact, he won the gold medal in doubles, and bronze medal in singles four years back in Athens Olympic. This time, a silver medal in singles has already been guaranteed for Fernando Gonzalez. So, I think, the final match of men’s singles has every bit of possibility to be an exciting match.
