Andaman and Nicobar Island Jarawa Tribe video, case registered against unknown people
The Indian government recently asked an explanation after a video surfaced in which the women from the Jarawa tribe were seen dancing naked waist up. A case has been registered against unknown people for shooting and uploading videos.
The issued was raised after a leading British newspaper released a video shot in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which shows women from the tribe dancing for the tourists. The Jarawa tribe has been inhabiting in the islands for thousands of years.
The British newspaper reported that the women were forced to danced nearly naked for the amusement of the tourists, who bribe the local police. Since then the inflow of tourists has increased. The footage has also been noticed by the women’s rights activists, who have demanded strict action against those who have violated the rules.
In the video one can hear a police officer telling the women to dance. This is the tribe’s first effort to reach out to the outside world and has turned out to be a shame. On the other hand the officials from the Andamans say that the footage is at least four years old.
