Susanthika Jayasinghe to Carry Sri Lankan Flag at the Opening Ceremony of Beijing Olympic Games 2008
National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka has recently named Susanthika Jayasinghe, a sprinter specialized on 100 and 200 meters, as the leader of Sri Lanka’s Olympic squad. The athlete will also carry the Sri Lankan flag at the opening ceremony of Beijing Olympics Games, due to begin on August 8. Sri Lanka’s eight-member Olympic bound team will leave Sri Lanka for China on August 5, 2008.
Susanthika Jayasinghe is the biggest hope of Sri Lanka in Beijing Olympic. She became the first Olympic medalist from Sri Lanka after winning the bronze medal in the women’s 200 meters in 2000. Last year, Susanthika clinched the gold medal in the same event at the World Championships in Japan.
