BCCI Not to Make $70m Deal with Sri Lanka as SLC Leaked the Offer to the Media

Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has put an end to a likely financial help worth $70-million to Sri Lanka, citing that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) failed to keep the bailout offer confidential. Earlier, it was reported that Sri Lanka was looking to make a bailout deal worth $70-million with BCCI for a decade and SLC also agreed to provide Indian Premier League (IPL) with full support in which they would have to release the IPL players from Sri Lanka’s tour of England in 2009 so that their IPL players could participate in the second season of IPL.

However, BCCI has recently confirmed that it would not make the deal with SLC because SLC made the confidential offer public in the media. Well, it seems to be a lame excuse from BCCI, considering the fact that Sri Lanka’s sports minister Gamini Lokuge even took the matter in the parliament too even a few weeks before, but BCCI remained silent that time and now they are claiming SLC’s failure to keep the matter confidential is the reason behind their withdrawal of help.

SLC Chairman Arjuna Ranatung is now confident to go for the England tour next year, even though IPL second season will also be going on at the same time and many of Sri Lanka’s IPL players would miss the multi-million dollar tournament in that case. However, Ranatunga thinks it is necessary for Sri Lanka to go on the tour in order to get over the current financial crisis of the SLC. Well, in that case, Sri Lanka’s IPL players will not be able to earn a lucrative amount of money by taking part in the second season of IPL. So, an argument between SLC and its IPL players is very likely to happen.
