Hong Kong Super Sixes: Pakistan Defeats England by 3 Wickets

Pakistan defeated England by 3 wickets in Hong Kong Super Sixes 2008 tournament. England scored 77 runs losing 2 wickets in their allotted 5 overs. Thanks to Moody’s 31 and Bresnan’s 12, England threw a challenging target for Pakistan. Pakistan did not have any problem to reach the target losing 7 wickets thanks to Faisal Iqbal’s 33 and Anwar Ali’s 16. Earlier, Pakistan lost to South Africa.

Each of the matches of Hong Kong Super Sixes tournament is of 10-overs in which 5 overs are allotted for each side and each team consists of six players. This is an ICC-sanctioned tournament that has been taking place since 1992. Pakistan and South Africa are the most successful teams in the history of the tournament as both the teams won the tournament on four occasions. Sri Lanka is the defending champions who defeated All Stars team in the last year’s final.

Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2008 started today and the tournament will finish off with the final match being taken place tomorrow. Today, Australia was defeated by defending champion Sri Lanka by 6 wickets, while South Africa defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets. India got off to a bad start to the tournament being defeated by England. Interestingly, Hong Kong defeated All Stars team by 5 wickets.

I already mentioned that Hong Kong Super Sixes is a tournament that has ICC’s sanction. You already know that Indian Cricket League (ICL) is seeking ICC’s sanction amid its dispute with BCCI. Here, I think, if Hong Kong Super Sixes can get ICC sanction, then ICL should also be recognized by ICC. ICC asked that in order to get the ICC recognition, a tournament has to be officially recognized by the cricket control board of that country. Well, it is true that ICL does not have BCCI’s recognition. Well, here I think, ICC should consider the fact that ICL is helping the cricketers and inspiring the young people to come to cricket in what Cricket is being promoted.
