Shahana Goswami is the latest talent of Bollywood. Although Ru-Ba-Ru, her first movie as a female lead, did poorly at the box office, she has been well received by critics and audience. Shahana Goswami came from theatre background. In 2006, she did a small role in Naseeruddin Shah directed Yun Hota To Kya Hota. This was followed by another small appearance in Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. In 2008, she finally got noticed for her performance in Farhan Akhtar starrer Rock On! Shahana Goswami played the character of ‘Debbie,’ the nagging wife of Joseph ‘Joe’ Mascarenhas (Arjun Rampal). Not only the audience liked her, she also received critical acclaim.

“At first I was very apprehensive about playing the role of Debbie and I thought I’ll end up looking like a nag. I had a lot of discussions with director Abhishek Kapoor and worked out all the finer details of the character. Arjun Rampal too was very helpful,”

She said that finally she was happy for playing the role convincingly and received a great response which was totally unexpected. Rock On! was the first big movie to showcase her talent. On the last day of the shooting of Rock On! at Alibaug, the crew partied all night and it was both a happy and sad day for Shahana Goswami because they enjoyed the shooting very much.

After Rock On!!, Shahana Goswami appeared in Firaaq, the directorial debut of another Bollywood actress, Nandita Das. The movie tells the story of terror attack. Firaaq was screened at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in North America and Canada’s Toronto Film Festival. In Firaaq, Shahana Goswami played the character of a mehendiwali. Shahana Goswami said that Nandita Das was a gifted director and sensitive and intelligent person. She had been very clear about what she wanted. Shahana Goswami’s next project is Sudhir Mishra directed Tera Kya Hoga Johnny.

Interestingly, Shahana Goswami is not afraid of doing any kinds of roles. In Ru-Ba-Ru, Shahana Goswami played the role of a girl who is in a live-in relationship with her lover. Live-in relationship is not a very popular and widely accepted concept in Indian culture. Still, Shahana Goswami went ahead with the project. She played ‘Tara,’ an aspiring actress and singer who is in love with Nikhil (Randeep Hooda), who works in an ad-firm. They live together. Things become complex when Tara wants to take the relationship to the next level. In the movie, Shahana Goswami did ten kissing scenes with Randeep Hooda and she had no apprehensions regarding those scenes. She said:

A kiss is an eternal sign of romance and love. ‘Ru Ba Ru’ being a modern love story of a couple who are living in relationship for two years, the intimacy and chemistry had to be right. It was a part of my job to authenticate the relationship on screen, and Randeep being a thorough professional made me very comfortable before each scene”.

About the movie’s subject, Shahana Goswami said that Indian movie goers have evolved a lot and their thinking has also evolved. Live-in relationship was an urban reality and it was not something difficult to digest for the audience.

Shahana Goswami is also a trained Odissi dancer and she has no problems doing item numbers. Aside from acting, Shahana Goswami is very active in sports. She was the second national champion in artificial wall climbing.

To become successful in Bollywood being actor’s son, daughter or niece is not the most important thing but knowing how to acting is important and Shahana Goswami is a big example of that. With her hard work and talent, she turned audience’s head starring in small roles. She may not become the most successful actress but definitely a brilliant actress. we wish Shahana Goswami the best of luck.
