Former Pakistan Captain and Coach Intikhab Alam has been appointed as new coach of Pakistan cricket team following the removal of Geoff Lawson as Pakistan coach recently. PCB’s newly appointed chairman Ijaz Butt has said that PCB found Intikhab Alam as the perfect man to coach the Pakistan side. The first assignment of Intikhab Alam at the helm of Pakistan team will be a three-match ODI series against West Indies in Abu Dhabi in November. Claiming the job a difficult and challenging one, Intikhab Alam said his first task as Pakistan coach would be to maintain discipline in the team as he felt discipline had been the main problem and a player could not be bigger than the game.

The duration of his contract with PCB has not been finalized yet, but PCB chief Ijaz Butt is hopeful that it will be decided next week. Mr. Butt also indicated that PCB might hand him a two-year contract. Initially, PCB had plan to appoint former captain and coach Javed Miandad for another stint, but he refused the offer citing problems regarding his family and business.

This is not the first time Intikhab Alam will guide the Pakistan team in international cricket. Rather, he served as coach and manager of Pakistan team for a number of times in the past. As a cricketer, he represented Pakistan in 47 Tests in which he captained Pakistan in 17 tests. With his leg spin, he picked up 125 wickets in his 16-year-long international career. Now, let us see if Intikhab Alam can bring back the past glory of Pakistan cricket.
