Glenn Turner is a famous legend in world cricket. If you are from this generation then most probably you do not know a lot about him. However, in his day, he was one of the best batsmen in world cricket and he used to play for New Zealand national team. He played 41 tests and 41 ODIs and he had batting average of 45 in both versions of cricket. In ODI cricket, his highest score is 171 and it was a world cup record for a number of years. He was a great player in county cricket too. He was one of the four non-English crickters to score century of centuries in county cricket.

In cricinfo, I found an interview of Glenn Turner. There he has talked about his own time and the way cricket was to be played that time and there is a comparison between that time and now. It is interesting to see now that time national cricketers in New Zealand hardly got any money. He had to work extra hours to arrange the plane tickets in 1976. He worked in a backery at night just to arrange the plane ticket to go to Pakistan. So, after 32 years, the scenario has become just the opposite. Now, there is no shortage of money for most cricketers. Of course, the money is limited to Indian, Australian and England players. New Zealand players still suffers from some kind of insecurity as the example of Shane Bond can be drawn. Shane Bond last year decided to join ICL after he understtod that he was at the twilight of his career and he needed to secure financial freedom for his family. Anyway, I like you to read the interview of Glenn Turner in cricinfo.com. it will be nice to remember someone who was a legend in his time.
