Gopal (Ajay Devgan): He is a loving husband but his actions are misunderstood by his suspicious wife, Ekta. She believes that her husband is cheating on her.
Ekta (Kareena Kapoor): Ekta is a beautiful and intelligent woman and a great homemaker. She is suspicious by nature and a big fan of ‘saas-bahu serials.’
ACP Madhav Singh Ghai (Arshad Warsi): Madhav is Esha’s fiancé but he is not in good terms with her brother, Gopal.
Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor): He is the innocent mute brother-in-law of Gopal. Lucky loves both Gopal and Ekta very much and gets into trouble trying to help them.
Laxman Prasad Apte (Shreyas Talpade): He is the guy who has solution for every problem in the world. He loves his fiancé and ready to do anything (even fraud) to get her family’s approval.
Mira (Celina Jaitley): Mira is a simple girl with simple dreams. She wants to have a happy family life and marry the man she is in love with.
Esha (Amrita Arora): Esha is in a serious dilemma; whether she should support her brother, Gopal, who hates her fiancé, Madhav.
Daisy (Anjana Sukhani): She is a beautiful girl and she likes Lucky.
Synopsis:
Golmaal Returns may have been dubbed as the sequel of Golmaal, but except the male characters and the title, Golmaal Returns is entirely different from Golmaal. Gopal and Ekta are happily married. Along with them, lives Gopal’s sister, Esha, and Ekta’s brother, Lucky. Esha loves ACP Madhav Singh Ghai but Madhav and Gopal can not stand each other. Ekta is a big fan of “saas-bahu” serials. One day, Gopal had to spend a night on a yacht with a beautiful girl named Meera as he saved her from the goons. The next day, when Gopal returns home, he told Ekta that he spent the night with one of his buddies named Anthony Gonsalves. Ekta knew that Gopal did not have any friends by that name. Being suspicious, she writes a letter to Anthony Gonsalves’ address provided by Gopal. Unfortunately, the address turns out to be real. Gopal then requests Laxman, a junior employee of his office, to pretend to be Anthony Gonsalves. In the mean time, a dead body was discovered from the yacht where Gopaal and Meera spent the night and the worst thing is ACP Madhav has been charged with the investigation of the murder.
Trivia:
- As I was reading an interview of Rohit Shetty in Rediff, in comments section, a reader argued that Golmaal Returns is actually a rip-off of a Marathy movie starring Ashok Saraf, Savita Prabhune, Laxmikant Berde and Nivedita Joshi. Another reader commented that the story of Golmaal Returns is copied from a Hindi movie titled, Aaj ki taja Khabar. The story is almost same, except Rohit Shetty included a ‘murder angle.’
- In the Rediff interview, Rohit Shetty also revealed his plan of doing another sequel of Golmaal with famous actor Paresh Rawal.
- While Rohit Shetty was busy shooting his comedy thriller, Sunday Hindi movie in Delhi, he forgot the story sitting session with Kareena Kapoor. Rohit Shetty said:
“I was busy shooting for Sunday in Delhi and was quite hassled with all the stress I had to face due to the busy location of Chandni Chowk in Delhi. My producers of Golmaal Returns called me up and informed that they had set up a tele-conference with Kareena at 4 pm. I completely forgot about the call I had to make and next thing I know, I received a call that Kareena was willing to be a part of the film. Apparently, someone else on my behalf explained the script to her and she was game for it. It was only later that I had a detailed chat with her about her part in the film. But by that time she was already on board,”
- Director Rohit Shetty did not change Tusshar Kapoor’s character in Golmaal Returns because people loved Tusshar Kapoor’s mute character very much. Most of the time, people ask Rohit Shetty whether Tusshar Kapoor would play the dumb guy in Golmaal Returns and Rohit will not disappoint them.
- In Golmaal, Tusshar Kapoor played the role of a mute guy. His character became immensely popular and won him several awards. In Golmaal Returns, he is reprising the character and to become successful, the actor visited the holy shrine of Lord Tirupati in South India. When reporters contacted him, he did not admit about it. He said:
”I don’t want to comment on my visit to the temple as it’s too personal to talk about. As for the film, unarguably, we are all awaiting its release with bated breath because it’s shaped up really well. If the first GOLMAAL made you laugh, GOLMAAL RETURNS will have you in splits. I’m hoping to bag some more nominations for this one!”
- In Golmaal Returns, viewers will see Tusshar Kapoor doing a bike stunt. Tusshar Kapoor stood over a bike to woo Anjana Sukhani. He was not attached with any safety cable. To get the perfect shot, the scene was re-shoot 5/6 times and the bike was pulled over a distance of 20/30 meters. Instead of getting scared, Tusshar Kapoor enjoyed doing the stunt. He said:
“Many people ask me if there were any special effects or cable involved in the scene where I am trying to woo Anjana Sukhani by standing atop a moving bike….However, the fact is that there weren’t any. It is just me and my bike, though to be honest, the bike is being pulled instead of moving ahead on its own.”
- In Golmaal Returns, Arshad Warsi will be seen sporting a tattoo of Saif Ali Khan on his chest. Rohit Shetty got the idea of tattoo when the news of Saif having a tattoo of Kareena Kapoor came out in the news. It was a huge media splash. One day, Rohit saw that the journalists were trying to get the picture of Saif’s tattoo while he and Kareena Kapoor were driving to a function. The incident inspired him and he included it in the movie. Before doing it, he talked with Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor and they gave their consent.
- Golmaal Returns was shot in Dubai continuously for 40 days. Later, the shooting was done in Goa.
- Popular TV actor, Ram Kapoor, made a special appearance in the movie. He reprised his popular character, Jai Walia, from Kasamh Se. This serial was produced by Balaji Telefilms and broadcast in Zee Television. Kasamh Se also introduced and popularized Prachi Desai, who later starred in ‘Rock On!’ Hindi movie.
- In Golmaal Returns, Ajay Devgan made his entry standing over two hummers. In his debut movie, Phool Aur Kaante, Ajay Devgan also made a similar entry but that stunt sequence was done with motorcycles and at the end of the sequence Ajay Devgan stretched out his legs.
- In Golmaal Returns, Kareena Kapoor made her entry riding a sports bike. This was the first time, Kareena Kapoor rode a sports bike.
- For the first time in her career, actress Celina Jaitley played a deglamorized role in Golmaal Returns. In the movie, Celina Jaitley’s character was named Mira Nair, who hails from a South Indian Brahmin family.
- While shooting for Golmaal Returns, Kareena Kapoor used to sleep early and get up from her bed early. In the morning, she regularly does yoga.
- On the set of Golmaal Returns, Ajay Devgan played pranks on Kareena Kapoor. Ajay threw fake bombs at her which lit up but do not burst. Kareena Kapoor was very much afraid. She screamed and ran away.
