Geoffrey Boycott about England’s Tour of India 2008
Today while I was going through several cricket articles, I came across an article titled “England’s Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison can blow away India’s fading greats” by popular cricket analyst, commentator and former legendary English cricketer Geoffrey Boycott. The former English great has talked about England’s upcoming tour to India next month in his column in Telegraph.com. He asked Kevin Pietersen and his wings to go hard at Indian team in the next series.
Besides stating that touring India is always one of the toughest assignments in the calender, Boycott also thinks that this is high time for England team to pull off a test series win in India, a task that England did last time in the mid-1980s. Indicating the current off-form of most experienced Indian players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and that there is no quality replacement yet for these players in the Indian volt, he has also called on English players not to go to India with the intention of a draw. Draw has so far been considered as a good performance for any visiting team in India. However, Geoffrey Boycott thinks England should go for series win in India this time.
Geoffrey Boycott has admitted that English spinners will not match with the quality of Indian spinners: Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble in the turning wickets in India. However, he thinks, Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison, two ace pacers of England side, would be England biggest weapon in the tour of India. Well, I personally think that England has a chance if India’s big four can not retain their form back in time and spinners can not do what they have been doing for a long time in the home series.
