Kay Kay Menon started his acting career in 1996 with Saeed Mirza’s Naseem. He got noticed for his performance in Sudhir Mishra’s Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in 2005. Kay Kay Menon has done a wide range of roles. In Drona,’ for the first time, he donned the role of a villain. And not just any typical villain but one of the most expensive villains ever created in Bollywood. Kay Kay Menon played the character of Riz Raizada a powerful evil magician who wants to take over the world. About his character in the movie Kay Kay Menon said:

“I’m playing a negative character in the film because it interested me. I never did that type of role before. But that doesn’t mean that I will be doing only negative roles in future,”

Kay Kay Menon feels that an actor should never think of building an image. He said

“Indian cinema has evolved recently and today’s audience is exposed to international cinema as well. So I think we can’t typecast an actor. I think if any actor thinks of creating an image and sticking to it, then he is not an actor. He should only do his job and leave the rest to the audience….Image is created by the work one does. For me, it is a job and I keep doing that. So, whatever image comes thereof is not my calling. And I don’t think anybody can really change one’s image.”

Goldie Behl spent Rs. 220 million for Riz Raizada. He is a big time villain with his own empire. He has his own castle, troops and immense magical power. Goldie Behl said:

“Generally, a villain is not so much worked upon but in Drona, Ritz is a mighty character. He is grand and guileful, and to construct this character on screen has cost us a proper fortune,”

The castle of Riz Raizada was a real castle in Prague, the capital of Czech Republic and one of the most expensive cities in the world. Lots of special effects had been used as well. The exteriors of the castle resembled a lot with the Bikaner Fort in Rajasthan which was done by special effects. The interiors of the castle were shaped like a well. To create the look, a similar castle was erected in Mumbai’s Film City and it took two weeks for 100 workers. In addition, 200 people were hired to play the roles of Riz Raizada’s troops. They shot for two months in Prague.

Other such expensive villainous characters in Bollywood are- Shakaal of Shaan (1980) and Mogambo of Mr. India(1987).
