Belarus vs England World Cup Qualifying: Rio Ferdinand About the Match

Rio Ferdinand thinks that a victory against Belarus will have England’s work half done to ensure a place in the world cup 2010. England will face Belarus away at Minsk on 15 October 2009. With regular captain John Terry absent through back problem, Rio Ferdinand led England to an emphatic 5-1 victory over Kazakhstan and England is now leading Group 6 with maximum 9 points from 3 matches.

Rio Ferdinand has recently said that if England can over Belarus on Wednesday then they will be halfway through the world cup 2010.

Goal.com reported:

Ferdinand told the Daily Express: “If we can win in Belarus, then it will feel like we’re halfway there because we’ve got a long way to go until the next game after this one.

“If we can get four wins out of four we’ll be very pleased and be in a very commanding position.”

I do not think that England’s work will be half done, even it they can win against Belarus because England still has two matches against Ukraine and a home match against Croatia, who defeated England at Wembley last year in what England failed to qualify for Euro 2008. However, a victory at Minsk will definitely boost up England’s confidence before they meet Ukraine at home in April 2009 at home.

England midfielder Frank Lampard is confident that England will win at Minsk to ensure their place atop the table, earning maximum point from the away match. England has won all of their three matches in world cup 2010 qualifying round. In the opening match, England defeated Andorra 2-0 before clinching a confidence-booster 4-1 victory against Croatia. Then they defeated Kazakhstan 5-1 at home.
