Australia defeated Qatar 4-0 pretty convincingly in the Group A match of AFC world cup 2010 qualifying round. With this victory, Australia reached atop the league table with six points to their credit from two matches. On the other hand, Qatar has been slipped from the top place in the group standing with four points from 3 matches.
Midfielder Tim Cahill, who was back to action after spending six months in the sideline with a foot injury, put Australia ahead in the match in the 9th minute. Just after seven minutes Tim Cahill earned a penalty for Australia after being fouled in the box. Brett Emerton scored the second goal from the penalty which was first of his second goal in the match. Australia got the third goal thanks to Emerton too in the 59th minute. Then in the 76th minute, Josh Kennedy scored the fourth goal for Australia and ensured a big margin victory for the home team.
With this victory, Australia is now in a good position in Group A and the way they dominated over Qatar, who was leading the point table even before the match, it seems that Australia is going to ensure their second straight entrance in world cup finals. For the second spot of the group, Japan and Qatar seems to be favorite at this moment, while Uzbekistan is still in the contention following their impressive 1-1 draw against Japan, but to ensure a place at the world cup finals, Uzbekistan now has to win three matches in a row at home.
