Shahana Goswami: The latest talent of Bollywood
Yesterday, I wrote a post on Bollywood’s up and coming actress, Shahana Goswami. Here is another post on the actress.
Shahana Goswami started her acting career in theatres. Interestingly, she did not act in any stage play but the experience proved to be very fruitful for her. Her debut movie was Naseeruddin Shah directed Yun Hota To Kya Hota followed by Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.and Rock On!!. The roles she played in these movies were small but she was recognized for her acting talent. Finally, she got the chance to work as a lead actress in famous ad-film maker, Arjun Bali’s directorial debut, Ru-Ba-Ru. She also bagged one of the three female lead roles of actress Nandita Das’ directorial debut, Firaaq.
Favorite DVD: Breaking the Waves, directed by Lars von Trier. The movie is about a religious woman who believes in God and talks to him.
Favorite romantic scene: The last scene of Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan starrer When a Man Loves a Woman. The movie has great scenes.
Actor she would love to go on a date with: Johnny Depp, because, he is a versatile actor and played many energetic roles. He is also very subdued.
Dialogue she had to mouth the most in front of the mirror: “Nahin, aisi baat nahin hai.”
Inspiration to become an actor: Movies inspired Shahana Goswami to become an actor. She loves movies because anything and everything can happen in a movie. There is no scope of disbelief.
Worst movies: So many, can not mention at the moment.
Films you wish to becom a part of: Chak De! India, Omkara, and Swades. Shahana also wish to play Amisha Patel’s role in Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd.
The quality that makes Shahana Goswami an actor:Finding the role I play and I play it my way.
Quotable quotes:
“When I made my debut in Bollywood, I didn’t come with sky high expectations . . . . .The only goals that I set myself were that whatever I do, I should do it with conviction. I wanted to do a variety of work and not be typecast.”
“Whatever one does well, it is bound to get noticed. Even if all I had to myself were small roles, I didn’t have any reason to complain. I worked with some very senior and talented actors and I learnt so much,”
“A kiss is an eternal sign of romance and love. We had to get the intimacy and chemistry right. It was a part of my job and Randeep is a thorough professional,” (regarding her ten kissing scenes in Ru-Ba-Ru)
“Everything in life has a silver lining. For me, this role means that whatever I did before was of consequence and potential. I mean, even before I came to Bollywood, I was with a theatre group. Though I didn’t act and worked backstage, looking back I realise that every little thing has benefited me.”
“I never went to a gym while I was in Delhi. Dancing kept me fit. And now, however alien a concept gymming sounds, I have no other option but to exercise.”
