Serbian star Jelena Jankovic reached semi final of U.S. Open 2008 thanks to an easy quarter final victory over Austrian Sybille Bammer in straight set. The one and half an hour affair ended with Jankovic winning 6-1, 6-4. Jankovic cruised through the first set within 33 minutes, but faced some challenges in the second.

Sybille Bammer was playing her first grand slam quarter final and perhaps that was the reason behind his nervy appearance. The Austrian committed 40 unforced errors, compared to 14 by Jelena Jankovic. However, the Austrian fought back in the second set, but it was not enough to prevent in-from Jankovic. After the match, Jankovic said that she was happy to have won the match in two sets. Most importantly, she added, she was feeling her shots lot better. She is confident to reach her first grand slam final at U.S. Open 2008 by outclassing her semi final opponent fifth seed Elena Dementieva.

Jelena Jankovic will face Russia’s Elena Dementieva in the last four with whom her career record stands 4-3. Jankovic, who is yet to reach a grand slam final, will try her best to outclass the Russian opponent, while Dementieva will look to clinch her first grand slam title at US Open 2008.
