India vs Australia Test Series 2008: Simon Katich Thinks India-Australia Rivalry Bigger than Ashes
It is now pretty clear that some of the Australian players rate a series against India ahead of an Ashes series. Ahead of the upcoming tour to India, Australian batsmen Simon Katich has recently said that the cricket rivalry between India and Australia bigger than Ashes. Katich is currently touring India with Australia A to gain some experience of playing in Indian condition. The four-match test series will kick off on 9 October 2008. Simon Katich termed Australia’s test series victory in their previous tour to India in 2004 was one of the greatest victories for Australia. In fact, that is the Australia’s first test series victory in India in more than 35 years.
Simon Katich thinks 2001 Kolkata test has been instrumental in the growing rivalry between the two cricket playing nations. In that test, Indian brilliantly came back to win the match, despite following on. VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid played two invaluable innings in the second innings, showing some of their best ever skill, while Harbhajan Singh proved to be lethal with the ball. Simon Katich also said that he was looking forward to the upcoming series and it was going to be another tough series.
