India vs Australia Test Series 2008: Adam Gilchrist Thinks Australia will be Competitive Despite Lack of Experience
Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist reveals that Australia’s inexperienced squad will be competitive in the upcoming test series against India starting from 9 October 2008. Besides admitting the fact that the current Australian squad is inexperienced compared to the side that toured India 2004 and clinched a historic test series victory, Gilchrist remains hopeful about the prospect of the side indicating that most of the young players and newcomers in the squad toured India with Australia A over the years and know about the nature of the Indian condition and wicket.
Since Australia’s tour to India in 2004, the Aussies lost a number of experienced players including Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Damien Martyn, Justin Langer and Jason Gillespie. With Andrew Symonds failing to make to the squad and experienced opener Mathew Hayden recovering from injury, Australia’s India-bound squad seems to be the most inexperienced side for a major tour in the last ten years. But Gilchrist is still hopeful that Australia’s young guns will be very competitive in the upcoming series and he is expecting another fantastic series between India and Australia next month.
Australia A team is touring India at this moment and has played two first class matches in the tour. National team players like Simon Katich, Peter Siddle, Bryce McGain and Jason Krejza are currently touring India with Australia A that played two first class matches in the tour.
