Can ICC really control Twenty20 Cricket?
ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat has expressed his view that ICC will try to put a brake on the immense growth of Twenty20 Cricket. It surely is creating problem for Test Cricket and ODI cricket. In fact, now there is a lot of money in Twenty20. So, most players are eager to play this. ICC does not like this because it is going to harm this sports in the long run. I agree with this view of Haroon Lorgat. However, I don’t think that ICC can do anything about it.
BCCI has become very rich with Indian Premier League (IPL). The other boards will not want to do the same. ECB is already on its way and ECB bosses are perhaps to eager to emulate the success of English premier League football as a global event. If ECB can really make a Twenty20 league and get success like EPL in attracting TV audience then ICC will become helpless about promoting Test cricket.
