Bollywood movies are famous for its songs but most of the time, we know the singers. How many of us know about the people who write these songs or compose these songs? Lyricist Sameer is one such person. He is one of the top lyricists of Bollywood but not too many people know about him. Both Sameer and his father, Anjaan, were lyricists. Recently, this talented lyricist signed a five movie deal with Orion Pictures, one of the three producers of Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie, Chandni Chowk to China . A lyricist signing five movie deal is something unheard of in Bollywood. In an interview Sameer talks about his success.

While talking about the five movie deal with Orion Pictures, Sameer said:

I met Nikhil Advani when he was assisting Karan Johar. I did Salaam-e-Ishq for Nikhil and the music did really well. Then he gave me the offer to write for his next film Chandni Chowk to China, but I refused because most of the songs were remixes. He has signed me for five of his forthcoming films. This kind of deal has never happened with any lyricist before. It’s only because of our good rapport that we have signed all these films.

Sameer is also writing song for late Gulshan Kumar’s daughter, Tulsi Kumar. He is not taking any money for writing songs for Tulsi Kumar’s album because Gulshaan Kumar was like a brother to Sameer and he promised Gulshaan that he would write songs for his daughter.

Born in 1958, to Lalji Pandey (popularly known as Anjaan) and Indira Pandey, Sameer did his M.Com from the Benaras Hindu University. He then started as a bank officer at the Central Bank of India but left the job and came to Mumbai in 1980. He became successful in the 90s. Since then, he has written lyrics for 4000 songs in more than 500 movies and won two Film Fare Awards. In 2006, a book on this talented lyricist titled, “Sameer A Way With Words” was released.
