Andorra vs England WC 2010 Qualifying: Michael Owen Expected to Return
England is going to start their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign on 6 September against Andorra, just four days before the high profile Croatia meeting at Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia. England team looks to get off to a good start in their world cup qualifying campaign and both the matches are very important in this regard. England has had a bitter experience of Euro 2008’s qualifying round as the three lions narrowly missed out on the final tournament of Euro 2008. So, England team is now very careful about upcoming World cup 2010 qualifying round.
In my earlier post, I wrote that England was going to miss two key midfielders: Steven Gerrard and Owen Hargreaves- for the Andorra and Croatia matches due to injury problems. No doubt, manager Fabio Capello’s task without Gerrard and Hargreaves would not be easy. Besides the bad news, England has good news too as star striker Michael Owen has made a satisfactory return from injury. Coming off the bench, the Newcastle United striker scored the winning goal against Bolton Wanderers in premier league and Coventry City in Carling Cup.
Michael Owen played in the starting line up against Arsenal yesterday for the first time since his return from injury. Capello was present at the Emirates stadium to check out the current condition of the players before finalizing his squad for the opening matches of world cup qualifying. It is true that Owen could not show anything impressive in his side’s 3-0 loss at Arsenal, but physically he was strong and fit. With two experienced midfielders missing out with injury and Owen’s good form of recent, Fabio Capello is expected to include Michael Owen in England squad for the upcoming two world cup qualifying matches.
