Players Associations Blaming ICC for Confirming Pakistan as Champions Trophy Venue
International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently confirmed that Pakistan will remain as the venue of this year’s ICC Champions Trophy, due to take place in September. In a board meeting called to assess the security reports regarding the country, ICC has decided to hold the tournament in Pakistan. However, some of the star cricket players and cricket player’s associations from different test playing countries including New Zealand, England and Australia are not satisfied with ICC’s decision. Security has become a major issue ahead of the tournament following a series of bomb blast in Pakistan.
Players Associations from New Zealand, Australia, England and South Africa have already boycott the tournament in Pakistan on security ground. Heath Mills, head of New Zealand Cricket Players Association, has made it clear that they will not support any of their players to tour to Pakistan. Moreover, Mills has accused ICC of giving less priority to players’ safety issues. It is believed that even if cricket boards agree with ICC on this issue and send teams to Pakistan, some of the star players might boycott the tournament.
