England vs South Africa Third Test 2008: Is there Any Chance for England?

At this moment, England seems to be under pressure in the third test of the series against South Africa. You know that South Africa is leading in the series after clinching a 10-wicket victory over England in the second test at Headingley. So, winning the currently ongoing third test is very important for host side if they want to avoid the series defeat at home.

Well, South Africa seems to be in the driving seat at this moment as they have already reached at 205/4 at tea break in the second day, in reply to England’s first innings total of 231. Jacques Kallis and Ashwell Prince are leading South Africa to a big lead in the first innings. Two more specialist batsmen AB de Villiers and Mark Boucher are yet to come in the wicket. So, there is every possibility South Africa might take a lead of 150-200 runs, in what it would be very difficult for England to save this test.

England needs a few wickets at this moment in order to restrict South Africa’s first innings lead within 100 runs. To be honest, a victory for England is less likely a thing to happen at this situation, but it is cricket where anything can happen, and uncertainty is part and parcel of the game. So, I do not want to write off England’s chances in the third test yet, but for sure, England needs a miracle to level the series with a match still at hand.
